IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MEETING re: THISTLETOWN MULTI-SERVICE CENTRE – Thursday, May 19 2016
IMPORTANT COMMUNITY MEETING HOSTED BY THE TORONTO DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD
REGARDING THE THISTLETOWN MULTI-SERVICE CENTRE
Thursday, May 19, 2016
6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Thistletown Collegiate, Cafeteria
20 Fordwich Crescent
As you may be aware the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) is reviewing our Thistletown Community Hub for potential sale. Before any decision regarding the potential sale of the property is made by the Board of Trustees, a public consultation meeting will be held to share information and gather your feedback.
It is important that we send a message to the TDSB that recognizes Thistletown as a site distinct from the other TDSB properties that are under review for surplus declaration.
The site is leased by the City of Toronto and offers essential services in our community, including fee and non-fee subsidy childcare, a community centre operated by the City’s Parks, Forestry and Recreation Division and the non-profit Rexdale Woman’s Centre. Other tenants include the Albion Islington BIA, the Rexdale Soccer Club, the Thistletown Senior’s Centre and others.
I have been working hard to have this property removed from surplus consideration and have been engaging with our local TDSB Trustee Michael Ford, MP Shafiq Qaadri, City and TDSB staff in efforts to advocate for this essential asset in our community.
The Thistletown Multi-Service Centre is a vital facility to the families, seniors and youth that live in Etobicoke North, which is why I am urging you to attend the public meeting on May 19, 2016 at 6:30 p.m., so that we have our say to protect our Thistletown Community Hub.
Following the meeting, the next steps will be:
